Im an FFXIV modder and thats what I was referring to. I port gear + hair from other games so I use RWT as a base to get the weights from body -> clothes, and then I refine from there with painting + handy weight edit addon

The most bookmarked thing I've seen in the Blender community this year isn't a render. It's a weight transfer add-on.

Robust Weight Transfer moves skin weights from a body to clothing in one click, cleanly enough that you're correcting instead of painting from scratch.

It's free, and it's become a staple in avatar and costume work for an obvious reason: nobody has ever enjoyed weight painting.

@d_flog Depends on the mod imo. For FFXIV we got a shit ton of bones to deal with, and the bones for clothing/skirts are finicky as fuuuuuck.
For stuff like edges and specific vertexes, i use the base modifier and vertex groups.
For hella minute details, I use Handy Wieght Edit :3

@vadomaxiv @Bunny117e7e Bone limit is 8 bones since DT and legit the only time I hit that limit is sculpt reweighting 🤔
And default data transfer also doesnt care for bone limit so might as well just use RWT
