Always with the "hard working"
It's not an identity people aspire to. People want to do a regular amount of properly renumerated work & do it well.
They don't want to "work hard" because they are underpaid & have to do more hours, or 2, 3 jobs in order to make ends meet.
Another talk shop! @UKLabour is hollowing out the hospitality sector. Simpsons went yesterday. Parker was an accountant and knows this and so he is simply trying to con people that #Labour is doing something. @GrBhamChambers@BrumCAMRA
Lots of good people and good work at yesterdays West Midlands Night Time Economy Report with @RichParkerLab giving us a mention!
Taxi in with @lylebignon , lift back with the one and only @ChungYingRest James Wong.
Government must do more to support hospo, starting with VAT.
Oh no - another one? Good to see state subsidy and student fees being used so sensibly [sic]

Polanski admits he did not vote & Green Party lied about him voting by post. He wasn’t even registered. Then they said it was for security reasons. But public figures are able to vote whist excused giving public address. So why all the lies?

British politics will reach a new reductio ad absurdum in the Makerfield by election:
Vote Labour to destroy the sitting Labour Prime Minister.
Support Labour PM Starmer but NOT voting Labour.
We are having a by-election not because there’s any demand or need in the national interest but entirely to suit the convenience of the byzantine politics of the ruling party and the political pygmies in whose interest it is run.
We are no longer a serious nation. No wonder the bond markets are squiffy.
how can landlords get away without providing proper bins for their tenants? 😵💫
no bins for tenants means more rubbish on the streets - all because a landlord doesn't care to do the right thing
Sandwell’s problem was NEVER just Labour.
It was the culture they built:
❌ rubber-stamp politics
❌ managed debate
❌ endless paperwork
❌ weak scrutiny
❌ scripted meetings
❌ selective outrage
❌ consultation theatre
❌ and councillors too frightened — or too comfortable — to challenge anything.
I sat through the Extraordinary Council, Full Council, Cabinet and Petitions meetings.
What I witnessed was staggering.
Hundreds of pages…
major decisions…
rent rises…
budget pressures…
safeguarding…
air quality…
housing failures…
all rushed through with barely any scrutiny at all.
At times it felt less like democracy and more like a corporate audiobook with voting buttons attached.
And now Reform controls Sandwell.
This is their warning too.
Because if they inherit the same culture of officer-led complacency, procedural arrogance and managed democracy… residents will turn on them exactly the same way they turned on Labour.
This is probably one of the most important political pieces I’ve written on Sandwell in years.
Read it. Share it. Challenge it.

Enjoyed Kemi’s quip about free breakfast clubs being a defining legacy of this Labour government.
When the Tories deride breakfast clubs, it shows how out of touch they still are.
A £450 saving is a lot for working families. Easing the morning rush makes a big difference.
Are you, by definition, attacking all the people who voted for the biggest party in #Brum? Isn't that sowing hate and division? Where is the positive view of our future here? @Bozzers@brumdispatch@cllralexyip@BrumLabour
Surprise surprise... a racist who ran and won for Reform in Essex has left the role and been suspended by the party 🤦♂️
Reform are now the largest party in Birmingham City Council - we must continue calling out their hate, chaos and continue to promote unity in our city. 🏙️
Starmer and Reeves are not kidding when they say this political uncertainty causes economic damage. The only “reset” being achieved at the moment is higher borrowing costs. Result? We’re all worse off. So deeply depressing.
Another challenge not yet picked up in the media is that @BhamCityCouncil is now a male dominated council. 75% of the declared seats are to male candidates.
The Tories only have one female Councillor 😧
Ratio by party:
Lab 9/8
Con 15/1
LD 7/5
Reform 17/5
Green 15/4
Indy 10/3
