Not really. The lore says that your evil deeds can send you to hell. He simply didn't have time to commit any. He was forgiven, then basically died. Which meant he repented; meaning he had no interest in sinning again.
But the grace vs. works debate is a product of a contradictory source text. Hence so many denominations. It's Γ la carte for what works for you best. Then you just say that's what the Bible exclusively says.
