One day, BlackRock buying $UNI and Apollo buying MORPHO will look like obvious key crypto turning point.
I say one day, because the market is underpricing these moves.
TradFi companies entering crypto not via ETFs but direct token acquisitions is a big deal.
They'll likely use tokens for governance allowing them to influence the rules of the infra they use.
This matters because 1) governance stops being a pure meme, and 2) it also brings institutional expertise to our onchain world.
Most importantly for our bags, it validates that tokens are finally investible.
I'm curious if it wasn't Blackrock that actually pushed Uniswap into the UNIfication proposal.
This would be a big push for other DAOs with dual equity+token setups to follow Uniswap's lead in order for Tradfi giants to buy their tokens.
And this is a catalyst for a new alt season:
DAOs with revenue and institutional relevance are now acquisition targets. We've talked about this before yet it's finally happening.
This concentration of 1) capital and 2) attention could end the era of money being dispersed into thousands of valueless tokens.
The market is finally focusing on assets that institutions can actually value.
Since ETHLend in 2017, our mission has been to bring DeFi to the masses, powered by the Aave protocol and an application layer that now provides access to a $50B+ liquidity network.
Today, we’re proposing a new framework where Aave Labs becomes fully token-centric and redirects 100% of product-level revenue to the Aave DAO. This formalizes alignment between Aave Labs and the Aave DAO in service of token holders.
The Aave Will Win Framework expands Aave DAO’s revenue base beyond protocol revenue established by AIP-1 to include non-protocol and offchain revenue, materially increasing the DAO’s capacity to grow its treasury. This would position the DAO to fund growth, increase buybacks, and pursue other opportunities as it sees fit.
We believe Aave will serve as the backbone of global finance, a market measured in the hundreds of trillions. Building at the product layer creates new revenue for the DAO and helps scale Aave to mainstream adoption and bring DeFi to everyone.
Our goal is to achieve all of this with value accruing to one place: the $AAVE token.
Today we are proposing the Aave Will Win Framework, a new alignment framework that directs 100% of product revenue to the Aave DAO treasury under a token-centric model.
@ethereum is not Linux.
And if we keep treating it like neutral open-source infrastructure, ETH will slowly lose its monetary premium. @VitalikButerin https://t.co/UWVkcoHIDZ
x402 made payments native to HTTP.
I made USDC payments native to sound waves ✨
Not as a gimmick. As a proof.
1/ The setup:
@CoinbaseDev's x402 protocol embeds payments into HTTP. It's brilliant.
But I started wondering, if we can pay over HTTP, what else can we use to pay?
Spoiler: anything that supports 138 bytes
2/ The realization:
x402 is built on EIP-3009 - a 2020 standard that lets you sign payment authorizations offline.
Someone else submits it on-chain. The signature just needs to get from A to B.
HTTP is one way. Sound is another.
3/ What I built:
x402hz: two devices negotiate a payment through 2400Hz audio tones.
- Seller beeps "pay me $0.001 USDC" (30 bytes)
- Buyer's device decodes, signs the EIP-712 for the transferWithAuthorization locally, beeps back (108 bytes)
- Seller settles on-chain
Total: 36 seconds of beautiful noise.
4/ The bigger point:
If payments can travel over sound, they can travel over:
- QR codes
- NFC
- Bluetooth
- Light pulses
- Anything that carries 138 bytes
The payment primitive is transport-agnostic. x402 picked HTTP. The next protocol might pick something weirder.
5/ What this proves:
EIP-3009 separates three things:
- Authorization (offline, cryptographic)
- Transport (literally anything)
- Settlement (on-chain)
x402 nailed #1 and #3. x402hz proves #2 is wide open.
6/ Credit:
Huge thanks to the @CoinbaseDev x402 team for building the protocol.
I just... took it off-road.
7/ Next steps
Code is open source. Go make payments, travel over something ridiculous (repo in the comments).
138bytes. That's all you need.
