Long post - but wanted to explain why now that I hit 50 I am mixing growth with income ETF’s but reinvesting the monthly income. Grok was great for running the simulations on a blended income/growth strategy
I’ve refined my investment plan for the next phase - this is a subset of my total ISA account that I want to test on.
Starting portfolio: £135,000 (£100k in S&P 500 tracker + £35k in JEPQ)
Monthly addition: £1,000 — all going into JEPQ
JEPQ distributions: Reinvested 50/50 into JEPQ and S&P 500 tracker
Total invested over 5 years: £195,000 (£135k starting + £60k contributions)
I ran a Monte Carlo simulation (5,000 paths) with realistic assumptions:
Mixed Strategy (heavy income tilt + growth exposure)
• Mean end value: £372,500
• Median end value: £360,400
• 5th percentile (bad scenario): £250,300
100% S&P 500 only (same starting + £1k/month into S&P)
• Mean end value: £300,800
• Median: £280,800
• 5th percentile: £159,500
The mixed approach is delivering higher expected outcomes, better downside protection, and meaningful monthly income — while still capturing growth.
Feels like the right balance heading into my 50s.
Compounding, income, and discipline — let’s go! 💪📈

@GenXmillionaire Said it before, I want to follow people with similar and different opinions to me, so that I can have an informed opinion - to have one you need to see things from multiple perspectives. Although I won’t bother arguing…. To old!
@JamieFinance25 Have the holidays, eat out, but only when it’s worth it, to many do take out 4/5 times a week. Go higher end and enjoy what you do. You can do both, plan and live simultaneously.
@ColesTrades This has to be engagement farming, otherwise if you don’t know the answer to your own question after being 30% down ( this year) you should shut your laptop and never invest again.
Absolutely agree, small chats with school kids and graduates about career advice, ended up with me working with a school governing body that then set up a mutli academy trust to support 3 schools and built one from scratch after pitching to the government for funding. All beside the day job… and then stepped down, and now sharing and willing to help on here. Who knows where life takes you!
Enjoy getting older, we’re never going to be as young again as we are now. Don’t k ow if j will make the cut as I post about my life and I think I’ve made it, but also continue to build my day job, investment and real estate portfolio for when I do decide to retire! And even then I will do something part time!
@DadisFIRE That’s why I am here, I want to see everyone’s opinions - that way I learn different perspectives and I believe it allows me to have a more rounded well informed view. I get tired of hypers, maxi’s and people who cannot operate in the grey!
Majority of people who dm me start off asking me about my day, then do I trade, then ask me to join some trading channel or course. Are there actually any real connections on here?
@DadisFIRE@plasticboss A really good answer…. My own dad asked me what to do, he’s 87, first thin I did was ask him 20 questions…. Only then can you give tailored advice! No one knows sh!t if they answer first!
