On September 15, we recognize International #MyotonicDystrophyAwarenessDay, and today we’re highlighting the inspiring story of Michel LeBoeuf.
Diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy in 2011, Michel set out to achieve his dream of running a marathon. Despite spraining his ankle at the 30 km mark, he powered through with the help of three key mantras: “Pole Pole” (Slowly Slowly), “Power, Humility, Respect,” and “I am not this fragile body.” His determination carried him across the finish line, symbolizing his inner strength.
Years later, Michel’s children, who also live with Myotonic Dystrophy, motivated him to lace up his running shoes once more. Although his body presented new obstacles, Michel stayed true to his guiding principles, refusing to surrender. With his family’s unwavering support, he completed a half marathon, proving that true strength comes from perseverance and spirit, not just physical endurance.
Your generous support for Muscular Dystrophy Canada has made vital research on Myotonic Dystrophy possible, helping to improve the lives of those affected. With promising and innovative therapies on the horizon, there is renewed hope for families like Michel’s. Ongoing support, services and awareness for the Myotonic community remains important.

@OilersJohn This one even had crossing arms down. The new go-to excuse for the Valley line accidents is - "but if we had crossing arms it would prevent accidents..."
@SharaVigeant Lol! Reminds me of my grandpa's dog who would walk down the street (2 houses away) to their neighbors for his daily banana and biscuit treat. Small town fun!
She is doing some final lessons with a qualified instructor and her confidence has finally arrived. It's been a good reminder as a long time driver that slowing down a little makes the roads safer for everyone.
My kiddo is taking driving lessons this past week. They like to let the rest of the drivers know......
SLOW THE EFF DOWN!
Don't shorten your life or theirs by excessive speeding. Get there safely. Not every street should be a racetrack!
