- The Mexican army (2,000 strong) beat the French army (approx 3x times bigger) despite being much smaller and that was what made the victory so special.
- approximately 80 million pounds of avocados are eaten on 5/5 alone.
- Roosevelt commercialized Cinco de Mayo into a marketable holiday as a part of the "Good Neighbor" country policy to show good faith to Mexico.
- Mexico celebrates their military on May 5th.
- In Mexico it's actually called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (The Day of the Battle of Puebla)
- Children in Mexico have off school.
-Most of the popular foods eaten on Cinco de Mayo and in Mexican restaurants are not authentic Mexican food. They are actually "Tex-Mex".
