Meet Xander Cardoza from @dcstigers.

You’ll find they have a track juggernaut down there and Coach Mike Spargo will gladly talk to you about his potential 15 state champions he might have at Burke.

But he’ll stop any conversation to talk to you about Xander, a sophomore.

Went out for XC as a freshman and broke 25 minutes, once. After that he fell in love with running. Got his 3,200 down to 11:58 by last spring. Just missed state XC last fall.

Spargo will tell you that Xander will wake up and run 5-6 miles a day before school. They had to tell him to stop doing it on meet day.

Today, Xander ran a personal best 10:52 and change at the D-7 district. He got second. He has qualified for Omaha.

The people on the medal stands aren’t the only champions in Omaha.

They’ll be way more than Xander, too. I can’t wait to watch them all.
