Across political lines, New Yorkers agree: federal policies that harm mixed-status families in subsidized housing are the wrong direction, including 70% of Republicans.

As federal policies put pressure on the safety net, this program is more important than ever. We urge @NYCMayor@NYCDSSCommr and elected officials to secure funding in the FY27 executive budget.
Local elected officials across NY support the rent stabilization & the REST Act!
75+ local officials from Albany, Buffalo, Ithaca, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Rochester, Syracuse & more sent a letter to state leaders calling to pass the REST Act THIS WEEK!
We’ll keep pressing state leaders for solutions that protect access to care and expand housing stability statewide.
We remain committed to fighting for greater economic security for all New Yorkers at a time of rising living costs and growing uncertainty.
🔴CSS applauds @GovKathyHochul for expanding EDCAP in the FY27 budget, an important step to protect student borrowers and the state's financial stability.
It also supports vital programs like Community Health Advocates and the Next Door Project, but falls short on urgent needs⤵️
The budget failed to fund a plan to preserve health coverage for 500,000 New Yorkers who could lose it due to harmful federal policies.
It also missed the opportunity to expand the Housing Access Voucher Program amid NY’s housing affordability crisis.

“When landlords see that the agency to enforce Housing Discrimination is underfunded, they’re going to roll the dice,” said Paul Keefe, the vice president of legal services at the Community Service Society of New York.

As said here by @CSSNYorg , the solution exists. The funding exists. The budget must protect the 100s of 1000s of New Yorkers set to lose coverage in just a few weeks. @GovKathyHochul@NYSenatorRivera@AmyPaulin

NEW RESEARCH from @CSSNYorg shows how rent burdened tenants are across the state. Tenants need the REST Act to make rent stabilization a reality statewide. The increased protections would help protect them from landlord rent hikes. https://t.co/8lsHrO8dRB

🔴Major housing code violations in rent stabilized apartments fell by 8% last year.
And it’s not just newer buildings leading this trend—violations were down 9% in pre-1974 >80% rent stabilized buildings.
Do you know what that means? ⤵️
The growth in rent stabilized apartments was the biggest since the board collecting data in 2003.
Clearly, rent stabilization and the prospect of a rent freeze did not limit the construction of new housing.
“Governor Hochul has the opportunity to be the hero and save health coverage for half a million people,” said CSS VP of Health Initiatives Elisabeth Benjamin.
The solution exists. The funding exists.
Now New Yorkers need action from @GovKathyHochul.

Half a million New Yorkers will lose health coverage July 1 if the state doesn't act in this year's budget. Almost 230,000 of them live in NYC.
Thank you NYC Board of Health for committing to action and calling on the state and city to protect patients and preserve coverage.
Today the NYC Board of Health unanimously passed a resolution condemning federal attacks on public health insurance coverage, urging the protection of Medicaid, and directing the Health Department to develop and carry out a plan to support New Yorkers' access to affordable care.
