@NLYouthVoices Today we celebrate jubilee, resilience, and the strength of the Black community. Let's honor our ancestors, amplify our voices, and rejoice in the progress we've made together. Wishing everyone a day filled with joy, love, and unity! ๐โ๐พโค๏ธ Happy #Juneteenth!
๐งตDid you know? #Juneteenth marks the day General Granger announced the end of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Texas had resisted abolition since forming the Republic of Texas in 1836, but was ultimately defeated in the Civil War.
In 1979, Texas made #Juneteenth official, led by Al โMr. Juneteenthโ Edwards. Emancipation Park in Houston, bought for $900, honored the day. But before its federal recognition in 2021, economic shifts and capitalism dimmed its celebration, overshadowing its true significance.
Happy Juneteenth! ๐ Today, we celebrate freedom, community, and love. Juneteenth is a time for parades, barbecues, prayer services, and educational events. Let's gather with family and loved ones to honor this day of freedom. โค๏ธ๐๐คโ๐พ
