Incredible work by @hrw confirming what scholars have been saying for months: Israel’s evacuation order do not comply with minimum international standards and they are rather part of a strategy to de-civilianise Gaza, constituting forced displacement as a crime against humanity
We have certainly never witnessed anything like this in human history: a whole people methodically destroyed before the eyes of the world, with full knowledge and complete visibility, happening in real time
Economic stabilization used to be part of the disaster preparedness toolbox. It is time we add it back in. Just as it was recognized that some banks were too big to fail after the global financial crisis, we have to recognize that some sectors are “too essential to fail.”
In celebration of @FranceskAlbs recent standing ovations at both LSE and SOAS, let me highlight the main contributions her Reports have made to the way we understand the genocide of the Palestnian people in Gaza 🧵
.@FranceskAlbs' first and perhaps most important contribution is to put the issue of settler-colonialism front and centre of the discussion of genocide. In essence, genocide is not an accident, but a feature of colonialism; and it is not a rare find in colonial societies
The kids in the school I’m beside in Beirut have been encouraged to clap and cheer when air strikes hit so they don’t become frightened. A loud one hit not too far away just now & I watched them all do this after they heard the explosion. #lebanon
If you no longer see reports about Israeli massacres in northern Gaza, it’s not because they have stopped, but because the Israeli occupation has killed most of the journalists there for this exact reason: to keep you from knowing about them.
Massacres are being committed 24/7
Don't believe that Israel will be content with ridding northern Gaza of Palestinians. "This is a first step toward annexing" the north and "squeezing civilians into ever shrinking areas and eventually either forcing them out" of Gaza or killing them. https://t.co/Uz6A19DXR7
