On this day in 1942, Casablanca was released with the often misquoted: "Play it again, Sam."
The quote is actually: "Play it, Sam. Play As Time Goes By." You know it's a misquote because if you go into a bar and put on "As Time Goes By", no one will allow you to play it again.
On this day in 1973, during the Watergate scandal, U.S. President Richard Nixon held a press conference and said:
“If I was a crook—and I’m saying if, which I’m not—but if I was, I would be the greatest crook you’ve ever seen. Nobody would be better. Believe me."
History should be used in sentences like: "History is fascinating" or "what time is my favourite history podcast" but not in sentences like "History will remember me kindly."
Because it almost always won't.
Don't worry, conservative friends. State funded healthcare isn't actually socialist. The Mauryan Empire existed between 324-187 BC and had state funded hospitals. And they were ruled over by a divinely favoured king, so you'd feel right at home.
