I feel the need to add that we do try to prevent these killings from happening. But he's lightning-fast and super slippery. So once he sets his sights on some small woodland creature, it's difficult to stop him. We do try, though.

This is Vader. He's a dachshund/labrador mix. He looks very sweet and innocent, so a lot of people think his name is ironic -- a cute little guy named after one of the biggest, baddest villains in cinematic history. Don't let his appearance fool you. He is a murderer. 1/2

Those dachshund genes have given him a very high prey drive. Among his victims are several small lizards, 2 baby bunnies, a chipmunk, a vole, a fledgling mockingbird, and a young groundhog. So the name is appropriate, for in our backyard, he really is a Dark Lord of the Sith.

I just saw a hawk try to land on a tree branch that was too small to support him. He flapped around awkwardly trying to stay upright as the branch was bending underneath him until he finally gave up and just flew away. I’ve never related so much to a bird in my life.
