@ProfTonyPollard @ProfTonyPollard, here you can see the first of those unexploded ordnance we found in the bay of Matanzas associated to the 1898 battle. These were also found underwater, near El Morrillo battery: https://t.co/RkwUP5F3Gz

[Odlanyer Hernández-de-Lara @CubanArchaeo]

@ProfTonyPollard @ProfTonyPollard, during our underwater archaeological surveys at the Peñas Altas Battery in Matanzas, Cuba, we encountered several unexploded ordnance associated with the Spanish-Cuban-American War of 1898.

[Odlanyer Hernández-de-Lara @CubanArchaeo]

@ProfTonyPollard They were fired from the American ships against the battery. They did not pose a risk, however we worked with a military explosive expert to certify its safety.

@GuerraenlaUni My thanks to Alfredo for the initial encouragement, Erin Riggs for the editorial guidance, and Richard Bartholomew for all the backstage layout work that helped bring these papers into their final form.

I’m very pleased to announce the publication of two new papers in the Journal of Contemporary Archaeology.
The first paper grew out of a conversation with Alfredo González-Ruibal (@GuerraenlaUni) during our encounter in Madrid, where he encouraged me to develop the idea further

[Odlanyer Hernández-de-Lara @CubanArchaeo]

@GuerraenlaUni The second emerged from an invitation by the Guamacaro’s Group to research the history and archaeology of Matanzas’s first hydroelectric plant.
