Transplant Nephrologist @StanfordNeph. My research is to answer: how do we make better decisions based on the existing technology and states of knowledge?
Kidney transplant-related organ acquisition cost payments amounted to 4% of Medicare ESRD expenditure ($100k per transplant). Waitlist size and comorbidities contribute to this increase; expanding the waitlist will likely increase costs and liability. https://t.co/5p5Y4NagzD
@EMBrandehoff @SaynaNorouzi great summary! a few caveats on ethylene glycol: 1) lactate can also be positive (cross-reactivity of assay; 2) if you catch the pt early enough they may have only osmol gap without anion gap--if index of suspicion is high enough, needs to ob and treat.
Question for everybody: Has anyone done tried the Manfredini (https://t.co/U1Kh9oouTK …) approach to home exercise (metronym-paced walking)? I've been using whatever free metronym apps I can find.
@suziekjos @CJASN @hswapnil@OttawaRenal@annlbugeja You're a rockstar for keeping it up! Exercise is challenging enough even in people without kidney disease (here's looking at myself).

@dochill82 That's fantastic. I read some papers out of the UK on exercise initiatives in the dialysis units--lots of great work (I assumed you were from UK based on Liverpool in your description--apologies if I got it wrong!). Are you publishing the result?
for all who write/read grants&papers, for all those that consume quantitative data, this appears to be a great resource. These tools are sophisticated and with 'big data' visualization needs, i begin to wonder whether a picture is worth only a 1000 words..sells pictures short
My favorite: Pharmacist-led interventions in barber shops improve blood pressure control in African-Americans. Let's station them everywhere, shall we?
Congrats to @StanfordNeph@StanfordMed superstar Tammy Sirich on getting NIH R01 trial funded to study 2X weekly HD on QOL in pts with residual function!
@dguerrot Calcium phosphate deposition from massive renal dumping of Ca/Phos post-op? Wouldn't expect it to come on so fast though. Also doesn't explain that degree of elevation in LDH.
