In Jaws (1975), Quint’s famous monologue about the USS Indianapolis was not in Peter Benchley’s original novel but created specifically for the film.
The idea came from Howard Sackler, who wrote a short draft of about three-quarters of a page. John Milius then expanded it into a 10‑page version. Finally, actor Robert Shaw, who played Quint, revised and trimmed it down to about four pages.
This became the final version used in the movie.
