I felt gaslit by it: not in a bad way, constantly questioning my own morality while watching, my principles, and my capacity to accept her imperfections which I easily did while watching.

It had me thinking she could be a monster, then wondering if she might have been framed, then feeling guilty for even considering that she was capable of such things, only to return to believing that she did them - or maybe not - but also accepting that even if she did, many of our struggle heroes did, and were still given a chance, often without being tested in the way she was.

The documentary ultimately left me uncertain, and I felt a strange sense of relief in not arriving at a definitive conclusion. Perhaps I am not strong enough to fully confront whatever the truth may be.

Through all of this, I remain fully appreciative of the magnanimity of Nomzamo Winifred Zanyiwe Madikizela Mandela and of a life that transcended the bounds of normalcy; and why even at her worst, she was still the best amongst us for her fight against a brutal regime that had done everything under the son to dehumanize her.
