The unlawful automated debt-recovery scheme known as Robodebt was conceived, designed, and rolled out under the Liberal-National Coalition governments (specifically under Prime Ministers Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull, and Scott Morrison).

The Royal Commission into the Robodebt Scheme explicitly found that the scheme's creation, expansion, and defense were driven by Coalition leadership and senior public servants, not Tanya Plibersek or Bill Shorten.
