Totals for rare feats:
5 20-strikeout outings in 9 IP
24 perfect games
302 no-hitters (excluding perfectos)
350 cycles (h/t @EliasSports)
And now 20 four-homer games!
And 9 individual 6-run games since 1900!
amidst this overwhelming waterfall of Nick Kurtz fun facts I'm somehow especially stunned by this very simple one:
scoring 6 runs in a game is apparently even more rare than hitting 4 homers in a game
via @Stathead, this is only the 9th time in MLB history it's happened
We mourn the passing of former Padres legend and National Baseball Hall of Famer, Rickey Henderson.
Rickey played for the Padres from 1996-1997 and again in 2001. He broke Ty Cobb’s All-Time Runs Scored record with a home run late in the ‘01 season and recorded his 3,000th career hit on the final day. He also set a Major League record with 81 career leadoff home runs and finished with an MLB-record 1,406 stolen bases.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
Shohei Ohtani just had one of the greatest performances in MLB history:
6-for-6
3 Home runs
2 Doubles
1 Single
10 Runs Batted In
4 Runs Scored
2 Stolen Bases
He became the first player in MLB history to reach the 50/50 (and now 51/51) club.
Greatest. Of. All. Time.
Here is the entire list of players before today with 17 total bases in a game. Shohei Ohtani is the first to do it without hitting four home runs. He is the only one to steal a base (he swiped two).
On the day he went 50/50, Ohtani had one of the greatest games in MLB history.
