Many people – some of whom have lived in the area all their lives – still have trouble getting their heads around the Colne Valley Regional Park as an entity. They know individual parts of it, but the wider view often remains opaque, so here’s a map!
Staines Res this am: Marsh Harrier flew e towards the Moor over the s basin at 12:00, 15 B N Grebe (8 s basin, 7 n basin), water pipit and 36 Pochard and 25 Goldeneye. @CVBirding
Staines Res this am: 10 B N Grebe(8 n basin,2 S), 3 water pipit nw corner s basin, 500+ tufted duck, only 17 Pochard, 2 Pintail and 24 Goldeneye. @CVBirding
Staines Res this am: Lesser Scaup SW corner S basin, 6 B N Grebe, 2 Pintail, water pipit, 28 Goldeneye, 400+ tufted duck, 34 Pochard and gosseander. @CVBirding
Staines Res this am: 5 B N Grebe, 3 Pintail(1m, 2f) on s basin, Peregrine, water pipit, shelduck. About 40 Pochard in sw corner of s basin, could not see lesser scaup today.@CVBirding
Staines Res this am: increase in duck numbers with 300+ of Pochard and Tufted Duck, 20 goldeneye. 9 B N Grebe, 4 shelduck, water pipit. Pochard flock again in sw corner of S basin into sun therefore could not see if lesser scaup still present. @CVBirding
Nice morning at Staines Res: Ad Great N Diver on n basin (thanks Ken), 2 Little gull ad and 1st winter s basin, 3 B N Grebe, gooseander, 60 Pochard, 200+ tufted duck, c10 Goldeneye and 4 Egyptian Geese. @CVBirding
A Green Sandpiper photographed at Springwell Lake this afternoon was my first for the site, plus a rather sleepy looking Grey Heron. @LondonBirdClub@CVBirding@Colne_Valley
Travelling home this morning along the M25 heading north towards junction 16 between Cowley & Uxbridge I spotted a Barn Owl flying over the motorway heading west. @CVBirding@Colne_Valley
An afternoon visit to Woodoaks Farm where I bumped into @LeeEvansBirding produced 3 Whinchat & 2 Stonechat on the fence line below the tea shack (well spotted Lee regarding the Stonechats) plus 2 very mobile Clouded Yellow Butterflies. @Hertsbirds
