I'm seeing a lot of posts from people admitting how disappointed they are with how much Shawn Ryan (of Podcastistan) has changed.

He now platforms mentally deranged opportunists like Candace Owens and believes Israel is the enemy of the United States, among other things.

Well, it's worth remembering that after leaving the military and later working as a CIA contractor, Ryan has openly admitted that he then went on to build a cocaine trafficking network in South America.

That betrayal of the moral principles he once swore to uphold in service to his country inevitably raises questions about how much weight people should place on the judgment of someone who went from serving his nation to embracing a life fundamentally at odds with the very values he once claimed to defend.

Now, I'm not saying someone who went down that road and also battled addiction can't reform and turn their life around. They absolutely can. But that doesn't mean every person who does so should automatically be regarded as a reliable judge of character or a trustworthy voice on a wide range of issues.

A past involving such a drastic change in moral direction, coupled with organised drug trafficking, is hardly the kind of track record that inspires unquestioning confidence in someone's judgment.

If someone's judgment and allegiances have shifted so dramatically before, is it really that surprising to see them take another drastic turn now?
