If the US was poorer, and people weren't able to travel as often or as far, and didn't have a right to freedom of movement, a China-style lockdown would give the same results here, probably better.

In the US it works the same way as all pandemics, the vast majority of cases are in urban areas, see attached map.

A draconian lockdown by the world's largest police state is a very effective way of keeping deaths down.
