It took away their hunger for a little while. That bread didnʼt make them live for ever. God sent Jesus as the spiritual bread for all people to eat. It allows them to live for ever. Jesus said I am the bread of life. This was the first of Jesusʼ seven I am statements recorded by John. It was hard for people to understand what Jesus was talking about. He was inviting them to believe that he is Godʼs Son. Those who believe this and follow Jesus will be raised from the dead. They will have eternal life and live with God for ever.
