I had the absolute honour of attending the official opening of the Somalia National Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale.
Seeing our stories brought beautifully to life and witnessing Somalia standing tall on one of the world’s biggest art stages is a feeling I can’t describe.
Huge congratulations to Commissioner Abdirahman Yusuf, the incredible artists Ayan Farah, Asmaa Jama, and Warsan Shire, and curators Mohamed Mire and Fabio Scrivanti, and everyone who helped turn this dream into reality.
Thank you for this proud moment.
The doors are open until November 22nd, stop by Palazzo Caboto and see Saddexleey if you’re in Venice. Cio.
On May 8th, the very first Somalia National Pavilion officially opened, a historic day.
Through the profound work of Ayan Farah, Asmaa Jama, and Warsan Shire, our oral heritage has been translated into physical space. The pavilion was officially inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of the @MOISOMALIA and the Director of the National Museum of Somalia.
We were honored to share this milestone with delegates from the Somali global community, partners, family and friends, and the wider art community.
We are incredibly grateful to our artists, and to the Somali community whose love and belief brought us here.
The doors are open. Welcome to SADDEXLEEY.

The #BiennaleArte2026#InMinorKeys is enriched by 31 Collateral Events and 99 National Participations, hosted in the green heart of the Giardini, at the Arsenale, and in the city centre of #Venice. The Republic of Guinea, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Nauru, Qatar, the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Federal Republic of Somalia, and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam will take part in the #BiennaleArte for the first time, while El Salvador will debut with its own Pavilion. #LaBiennaleDiVenezia thus reaffirms its role as an open institution – one that any country recognised by the Italian Republic may join independently – and as a place of dialogue, openness, and artistic freedom, rejecting any form of exclusion or censorship of culture and art, encouraging connections between peoples and cultures, and maintaining an enduring hope for the cessation of conflicts and suffering → https://t.co/uL5684RZ9M
