@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii This is simply not true and is easily verifiable false to anyone who reads Mat 19:7.
This is not just a bad interpretation, this is a lie about Scripture. I invite you to repent of this, and ask that you educate yourself before you would try to educate others.
@LennisDynamiks@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii I call that gleaning, you can call it whatever you want. But don't say you're getting it from the Law, because that's clearly not true.
@LennisDynamiks@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii Ex 20:14 "You shall not commit adultery." Immediate question: what is adultery? Whatever answer you give, it is not from the Law, because the Law doesn't say. You must answer using either other Scripture or some tradition.
@LennisDynamiks@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii Re-read the text. You're reading your traditions in.
“And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
The HUSBAND, not the wife (they're not legally divorced) commits adultery (implied: with the 2nd woman).
@LennisDynamiks@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii In Mat 19 they are described simply as Pharisees so we can assume they were educated (and aware of the debate). Nothing else is clear about their motives though
They could have been believers like Nicodemus, or maybe not. The passage doesn't tell us, so we shouldn't assume either
@LennisDynamiks@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii "Pharisee" was a religious sect, similar to "Protestant". They were not all bad, otherwise Paul's statements in Phil 3:5 and Act 23:6 make no sense. Context, not assumptions, should determine whether they were "good" Pharisees (e.g. Nicodemus) or not.
@LennisDynamiks@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii I agree, the Law is direct rather than implied (Do not commit adultery). However, adultery is not defined in the 10C; its meaning must be gleaned from elsewhere
In Mat 19:9, Christ says that marrying a woman when still legally bound to another woman is adultery
What is unclear?
@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii Jesus is teaching
Jews ask him about no-fault divorce
Jesus says "let no man separate"
Jews: "wait what about legal divorce?"
Jesus: "The only legal divorce is in the case of immorality. Otherwise, if you marry someone else its adultery."
What about the flow implies a trick?
@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii This is not a trick question though, you are confusing this section with Mat 22. This was an open debate at the time (see Mishnah Gittin 9.10), and some Pharisees (not all of them were bad) were seeking His input.
You see it as confusing because you are imbalanced on this point.
@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii There is nothing in Eng or Gk to suggest "another" is "another improperly divorced woman", rather than simply "another woman"
3 times now you have bent the text. It is the MAN being discussed here (rather than the woman in 5:32), and HE commits adultery by marrying another woman
@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii This is not a translation matter, I also use the NASB. You just ran off to another place. Let's stay on target here: the man is the one who commits adultery in Mat 19. Does your interpretation deny that?
@biblemarriages@MikeWingerii This is in reference to Mat 19:9 where it is said that the MAN commits adultery: "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."
But you have reinterpreted it to be the WOMAN committing adultery
@SettledRS Hey sorry if you've answered this somewhere else, but have you considered boosting hp with anglerfish etc? Wouldn't be surprised if that's "cheating" but wanted to ask anyway
