Mr. Fanboy Poster Appreciation 📸🤍(pt.1)
One of the first things that caught my attention is the poster's composition. Wan is positioned in the center of the background because he is entering a completely new world, the entertainment industry within the bl world. It's there that he'll finally meet his idol, Nine, but he'll also meet Third (Nine's on-screen partner) who initially becomes his rival. But rivalry doesn't last long, as Wan discovers that Third genuinely cares about him and becomes one of the people who guides him through the journey.
This is why Third and Nine occupy the foreground on either side of the poster. Beyond being the two main leads of the series Wan auditions for, they are the characters whose presence has the biggest impact on his journey, making them the natural focal points of the composition. Renji and Time, meanwhile, are placed in the middle ground. Their placement creates so much curiosity, hinting that they their roles are very important to the story without revealing too much. As the story unfolds, you'll discover how significant they become in Wan's life.
Lastly, I want to say this from a designer's and editor's perspective: every decision, from the composition to each character's placement, goes through many stages before reaching the audience. This is one of the first promotional posters introducing the main characters, and as the journey unfolds, we'll continue to see more posters that gradually reveal the story and the importance of each character.
It’s completely okay if this poster isn't your favorite. Everyone has different opinions. But regardless of whether you like it or not, I think it's important to appreciate the creativity, effort, and dedication behind the work, and to give credit to the people who brought that vision to life.
