TINUBU’S RENEWED HOPE HAS EXPIRED: NIGERIANS WERE PROMISED PROGRESS, BUT RECEIVED HUNGER, FEAR AND PROPAGANDA
Tinubu’s Renewed Hope has failed the most basic test of leadership: are Nigerians living better today? For millions of families, the answer is painfully clear. People are poorer, food is more expensive, insecurity remains terrifying, and the APC now appears more committed to defending its image than improving the lives of citizens.
A government cannot continue celebrating economic “reforms” while ordinary Nigerians are skipping meals. It cannot announce impressive statistics from Abuja while parents struggle to feed their children, workers watch their salaries lose value, and traders sit beside goods that customers can no longer afford.
Renewed Hope was marketed as a promise of prosperity. It has become a daily struggle for survival.
The price of rice, beans, cooking oil, transportation, electricity and basic medicine has pushed many households beyond their limits. Nigerians who were once managing are now begging. Families that could afford three meals have reduced their portions. Young people with degrees are wandering without opportunities, while small businesses are collapsing under the weight of high operating costs.
Yet the APC’s loudest response is propaganda.
Every criticism is dismissed as opposition politics. Every hardship is described as a temporary sacrifice. Every policy failure is covered with carefully written speeches, television appearances and social-media applause. But propaganda cannot fill an empty stomach. A press conference cannot protect farmers from kidnappers. A government-sponsored hashtag cannot reduce the price of food.
Performance is measured in the markets, not in political studios.
Insecurity also remains a national wound. Farmers are afraid to return to their fields. Travellers calculate the risk of every journey. Families contribute ransom money while officials repeat familiar assurances. When citizens cannot farm, trade, travel or sleep peacefully, government has failed in its first responsibility.
The tragedy is that Nigerians are being asked to endure more while those in power appear protected from the consequences of their own policies. Citizens are told to sacrifice, adjust and remain patient, but the cost of government still looks extravagant. The people tighten their belts while political elites loosen theirs.
That is not shared sacrifice. It is organised inequality.
APC can commission thousands of media teams, but it cannot permanently hide the reality in Nigerian homes. It can manufacture applause, but it cannot manufacture affordable food. It can attack critics, but it cannot intimidate hunger. It can blame previous governments, global conditions and opposition parties, but after years in power, responsibility must eventually reach the President’s table.
Nigerians did not elect a government to explain hardship professionally. They elected one to solve problems.
Renewed Hope should have meant stronger purchasing power, safer communities, productive farms, growing businesses and genuine opportunities. Instead, many citizens see renewed hunger, renewed fear, renewed taxation and renewed excuses.
This is why the APC is becoming increasingly dependent on propaganda. When performance disappears, publicity becomes the substitute. When results are absent, slogans become louder. When citizens ask questions, defenders begin insulting them.
But no amount of political packaging can change what Nigerians experience every day.
The market does not lie.
The empty pot does not lie.
The abandoned farmland does not lie.
The unemployment queue does not lie.
Tinubu promised hope, but Nigerians are living through a national hardship experiment. APC promised progress, but families are calculating which meal to sacrifice.
The verdict is already being written in millions of homes:
Renewed Hope has become Renewed Hunger, and propaganda cannot rescue a government that has lost.
Pages of the Glorius Qur'ān today, Sunday 12/7/26, Sūrah Yūnus (10): 107-109 & Hūd (11): 1-12, tafakkur verse 11: 3
Theme: There is a great blessing in seeking Allāh's forgiveness and sincere repentance
{وَأَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمۡ ثُمَّ تُوبُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ یُمَتِّعۡكُم مَّتَـٰعًا حَسَنًا إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّى وَیُۡتِ كُلَّ ذِی فَضۡلࣲ فَضۡلَهُۥۖ وَإِن تَوَلَّوۡا۟ فَإِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ عَلَیۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ یَوۡمࣲ كَبِیرٍ}
"And [saying], Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favor his favor [i.e., reward]. But if you turn away, then indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great Day".
LESSONS:
Sūrat Hūd (11:3) presents one of the Qur'an's clearest invitations to the path of spiritual renewal through istighfār (seeking Allah's forgiveness) and tawbah (sincere repentance). Following the declaration that the Qur'an is a revelation from the All-Wise and All-Aware and the command to worship Allah alone, this verse explains the practical means by which people can attain His mercy and blessings. It addresses all of humanity through the mission of Prophet Muḥammad (ṣallāLlāhu 'alayhi wa sallam), calling them to return to their Lord before the arrival of the inevitable Day of Judgment.
Allah first commands, "Seek forgiveness of your Lord, then repent to Him." The order is significant. Seeking forgiveness is an admission of one's sins and shortcomings before Allah, while repentance goes a step further by abandoning sinful conduct, feeling genuine remorse, resolving never to return to it, and, where applicable, restoring the rights of others. Thus, true repentance is not merely verbal; it is a complete transformation of the heart and conduct.
The verse then outlines the fruits of sincere repentance. Allah promises that those who seek His forgiveness and turn back to Him will be granted "a good provision until an appointed term." This promise encompasses a life filled with tranquillity, contentment, lawful sustenance, divine blessings, and inner peace. It does not necessarily guarantee material abundance, but it assures a blessed and meaningful life under Allah's care until the end of one's appointed lifespan. This demonstrates that obedience to Allah is one of the greatest causes of both spiritual and worldly well-being.
Allah further declares that He "will give every doer of favour his favour." This emphasizes His perfect justice. Every person who excels in faith, righteousness, and good deeds will receive a reward proportionate to their efforts. No act of sincerity, charity, sacrifice, or devotion is overlooked by Allah. While people may fail to appreciate or reward good deeds, Allah never allows the reward of the righteous to be lost.
The verse concludes with a solemn warning: "But if you turn away, then indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great Day." This warning reflects the compassion of the Messenger, who sincerely desired the salvation of his people. It also reminds believers that Allah's mercy should never lead to complacency. Those who persist in disbelief, arrogance, and disobedience without repentance will ultimately face accountability on the Day of Judgment.
This verse teaches that repentance is not merely a remedy for past sins but a gateway to Allah's blessings in this world and everlasting success in the Hereafter. It establishes a balance between hope and fear: hope in Allah's boundless mercy and forgiveness, and fear of His justice and punishment. A believer who lives between these two realities remains steadfast, humble, and constantly returns to Allah in repentance.
O Allah, forgive our sins, accept our sincere repentance, rectify our religion and our worldly affairs, grant us lawful, pure, and blessed sustenance, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. Āmīn.
IF they were truly rescued and not ransomed or returned pursuant to phone calls between the terrorists and the government, how many terrorists were captured or killed? And how many are going to be charged with killing Mr. Adesiyan who was shot, and Mr. Oyedokun who was butchered?
