THE WATER WE DON’T TALK ABOUT
We question drinking water.
But shower water?
Most of us never think twice.
Hot water.
Steam.
Skin exposed.
Kids bathing in it daily.
Normal doesn’t mean neutral.
So we added shower filters.
Not perfect.
Just one obvious step.

THE FIRST SIGNAL
Before the phone.
Before screens.
Before house lights.
Morning sunlight tells your body what time it is.
Melatonin comes down.
Alertness goes up.
The clock for tonight’s sleep starts now.
The first signal shouldn’t be fake light.
Real light first.
Artificial light at night is not neutral.
Rat study, not children... So no, it doesn’t prove everything.
But it should make us ask:
Why are kids under bright LEDs, tablets, phones, and TVs right up until bed?
Normal is the trap.
Normal is the trap.
Just because something has been normalized doesn’t mean it’s good.
Dad of three questioning modern defaults.
That’s Dad But Different.
This is alarming.
But what’s sad is most people will either ignore it…
or wait until age 6 and hand over the iPad like the brain suddenly becomes screen-proof.
Normal is powerful.
That’s why I question it.
Maybe kids don’t need more entertainment.
Maybe they need more outside, more freedom, and less stimulation.
A quiet spring break in a cabin reminded me of that.
Sometimes doing less gives them more.
Not advice — just something we do.
I tested our grounding mats instead of just assuming they worked.
But I wanted to test them for myself.
The readings dropped close to zero.
Still, now that it’s warmer out, I’d rather have the kids outside barefoot.
Not advice — just something we do.
As a dad, I’ve started questioning more of the defaults in our home.
One of the biggest changes has been how I end the day:
glasses change
overhead lights off
soft red light upstairs
phone on airplane mode downstairs
Not advice — just something I do.
As a dad, this is our one-two punch for allergies:
Nettle tea with local honey
Nasal rinse after being outside
Linked what we use in bio.
Not advice — just something we do.
Most people optimize the workout.
I started questioning the environment.
Same push-ups. Same pull-ups.
Just not under artificial light anymore.
Not advice — just something I do.
As a dad, I stopped spraying Febreze on our beds.
Too many extra ingredients for something our kids sleep in.
Now we use:
1 part vodka : 3 parts water + essential oil
Not advice — just something we do.
Most parents are thinking about vitamins, supplements, and snacks before they think about the light hitting their kids’ eyes in the morning.
That’s backwards.
Morning sunlight matters.
Much of my thinking here comes from @drjackkruse.

We moved back from Korea, but these 3 habits were too good to leave behind:
• shoes off at the door
• kimchi with meals
• sauna
Nothing complicated. Just a few habits that still make sense for our family.

Plastic touches food more often than we realize.
So we slowly started switching a few things in our kitchen to stainless steel.
Nothing extreme.
Just small swaps.
If you're curious, I linked the ones we use on my page.

One small change we made in our laundry routine:
We stopped using dryer sheets.
Now it’s just a basic detergent and wool dryer balls.
Clothes still come out clean and soft.
Not advice — just something we do.
Reducing some of the wireless in our house.
Hardwired the laptops.
Switched phones from 5G → LTE.
Removed a few Wi-Fi devices.
Router shuts off at midnight.
Not anti-technology. Just being intentional.
Not advice — just something we do.

We stopped buying countertop spray.
Now it’s just distilled white vinegar + filtered water.
1:1 ratio.
Simple.
Fewer added chemicals.
Less stuff in the air.
Not advice — just something we do.
