2. If so, is such conduct part of the objectives of #YoungWomen4ED? What sort of example is your organization setting for young people in Zimbabwe?

3. Are you going to be using your newly donated vehicles to spread such conduct across the country?

4. As the leader of this outfit, are you not putting young women at risk of sexual harassment and abuse by predators in your party? Does this risk concern you at all? What safeguards are in place to ensure these young women are protected from potential abuse?

🔸On the left, we have the Rwandan Minister of ICT at @wef discussing the study her Ministry has done on the potential impact of AI on Rwanda’s Govt services.

On the right, we have the Zimbabwean Minister of ICT jovially singing “mupanduki achachera mwena” (the sellout shall dig a grave) at a funeral, which is normally a solemn event where we respect the family and loved ones of the deceased. The jab was directed at a top leader of the Minister’s political party - a most unusual way for a Cabinet Minister to behave.

Yesterday, we told you about 15-year old Cliver, who was denied entry to the stadium for the Copa Libertadores final, so he decided to climb a hill overlooking the stadium and start a livestream on his phone, which attracted thousands of viewers and millions of hits on social media. 🤳

Well, Peruvian TV were so impressed they made his dream come true by inviting him to commentate a match. 😍

Having lost both parents at a very young age, it was very easy for me to lose hope. The struggles were immense so much that going to university was unimaginable. However, along the way, Strive Masiyiwa showed up through @HigherLifeFDN and supported me to dream again.

They took care of my tuition fees from A’ Level until I completed my first university degree. This is my story, one of many of us out there who were empowered through the philanthropic work of Sir Strive. With the prohibitive nature of tuition fees in Zimbabwe, a scholarship is one of the best ways to empower a person.

My story did not end there, upon graduating, I was recruited by Econet as a Brand Ambassador when we launched OWNAI. That was one of my very first jobs which helped me to earn.

This is the worst form of addiction and l pray against it each time l see someone starting to do this.

I had an older brother (like Ana mukoma wedu wekuGhetto wekuti anenge Ari munhu anongonakirwa newe and gives you a chance in life),he would go to the last part of the world to buy these old broken cars and resurrect them.

I mean dude would spend thousands and many hours working on these cars,kana yaita obva aitengesa hake at a loss 😂Haaaa ndakazoita hasha rimwe day and brought in some guy to buy all this old cars which were ready to be assembled and told him kuti kutengesai these cars,muri kuita chirombe and he agreed to sale them from there,he had been the happiest man.That was around 2019 just before COVID.

Few years later my other close brother @TasMhizha was busy doing this same project building cars loosing thousands per year in the hope of making more money.Fortunately for this one l was his personal accountant so l sat him down and showed him the numbers and said to him l don’t want to see this type of leakage again or otherwise l will stop being your accountant and now he is a free man!

Once again, Britain has shown the world, especially China ,that investing in innovation pays off, even if the invention looks suspiciously like it was designed on a tea break.

🔸This generation of African leaders is fickle, unstrategic and uninspiring.

When Robert Mugabe decided to “take back the land,” they clapped and cheered him on. They ignored the voice and plight of the masses. Behind Mugabe’s back, they were laughing at him, welcoming Zimbabwean commercial farmers to their countries and sniggering how they would “never become like Zimbabwe.”

None of them, except President Ian Khama, had the courage to hold Mugabe accountable for his bad governance, economic mismanagement and human rights abuses. If anything, most capitalized on Zimbabwe’s decline - presenting alternatives for international businesses and talented Zimbabweans that were leaving in their droves.

The moral of the story is - there is a huge disconnect between what African leaders “preach” in the halls of the African Union, the United Nations and other international platforms and what they practise. Recent events show that the Continent is more divided than ever. States will do what best suits them individually. There is no coherent articulation of an African vision to take the continent forward, no unity of purpose and no bold collective leadership towards translating the vast resources of the Continent into improved outcomes for the people.

Where we once had African leaders who would unite to defend each other against foreign oppressors, we now have a toxic mix of each man for himself, turn a blind eye to a neighbour’s abuse of its people and selfish undercutting that prioritizes narrow aims over a big idea that could position Africa as the super power it could be if there was ethical, competent leadership to harness the beautiful, rich land that Africa is on paper.

Some will ignore wars rage in Sudan and Congo while chasing passion projects abroad, others are silent when one of our own is bullied and ostracized, others sign peace deals between African nations that are cobbled together on foreign lands that prioritize their own interests over those of Africa, others jump when summoned by overseas powers to discuss the African agenda, others are corrupted while smarter nations capitalize on the shortermism to exploit our resources, others congratulate a murderous dictator for stealing an election, others join former colonizers in undercutting their neighbours, others establish dodgy military bases in arms with foreign powers while others loot and drink champagne while their people wallow in extreme poverty. Young people across the board are repressed, tortured and killed for demanding a better society because what we have now is not working.

These leaders have missed the opportunity to champion an African Renaissance and instead are superintending over a Great Regression.

It’s a mess.

These vehicles used to be assembled in Zim 🇿🇼 decades ago

Back then, about 20,000 units p.a were assembled.

New vehicle demand needs a boost to revitalise local assembly.

The South African economy works @Sales_Guru88. I have just landed at Heathrow Airport in London thirty minutes ago and bought a bottle of whisky in the duty free shop using my South African Nedbank account card, that is what any normal economy should do.

You cannot do the same with a Zimbabwean bank card using the local currency called ZIGs to buy anything abroad.

That inability alone shows you the scale of dysfunction. So, for all its challenges, South Africa remains a normal economy, one where the currency actually works beyond its borders.
The strengthening of the Rand is a sign of improved investor sentiment, higher demand for the currency, and positive macro economic signals, all of which tie to confidence in the economy.
