"Common sense" is a phrase people should avoid using outside of contexts like not sticking your hand on something hot. When used on more complex things like government policies, it intentionally paints things as more simple than they really are, as there's no common understanding

Reality can be whatever you want it to be, when you can always find enough information to forge an example of whatever you want, and there's never enough time, space, and attention to properly address it.

If the truth can't be as fast, short, and visible as lies. You can't win.

If yes, why? If no, could it be a factor then?

I was critical of Steven's claim considering that the bill had been in the works since early 1929, passed in the house, and then was seemingly debated on by the Senate from time to time before and after the crash.

@StevenMBelknap @BruceBartlett It was literally introduced in April/May of 1929 and passed the house in May. It was just waiting for a senate approval. The Senate ended up debating the bill off and on before and after the crash in October. Passed in March. It's not unrealistic to believe it was a factor.

@KeithIMyers I think he likes the controversy too. We're in an era where what's true matters less than what can be made to make sense to people. Doing something ambiguous like this, you'll have people workshop ways to justify it, these arguments will then be used to insulate Echo Chambers.

Elon did a bigoted salute supposedly on accident. His defense is ignorance.

You recreated that event, performing the salute, aware of it's context and perception. You do not share his ignorance, his only defense.

Just quoting him would have worked. The salute is forever Nazi.

For the record, in case it needs saying: I am not a Nazi.

I gave a talk at a pro-life event that seemed to go down well, I am pleased to have contributed to what I believe to be the most important of causes. The enemy hates that, of course, and the attacks have been plentiful. That is fine and to be expected.

The joke at the end was a mockery of the hysterical “liberals” who called Elon Musk a Nazi for quite clearly showing the audience his heart was with them. Context is key, but sometimes people ignore context to confirm their own prejudices. People see what they want to see.

My attempt at dry wit, in that typical British way, was not a joke at the expense of WWII, nor an admission of my membership in the Nationalist Socialist Party. That would be an incredibly ignorant and bad faith assumption to make. The responses are very telling, though. The people who understand, cheer - those who have eyes to see. The people who do not want to understand, reach for their pitchforks. They have found a new channel for their hated. They remain in my prayers; may the Lord soften their hearts.

Do not let the liberals distract from the real issue, the matter at hand, that we are allowing and enabling infanticide, and it must stop.

Whether a silly old cleric like me makes a poor joke is irrelevant. Do not be swayed and distracted by the enemy whispering in your ears. Focus on the light.

All human life is sacred. Imago Dei.

I will take the consequences as they come. Those of us in the pro-life camp adorn the full armour of God.

I worry about us entering a new era of cruelty towards humanity.

Always be weary of individuals who find joy in revenge, punishment, and violence.

They forge their own enemies, and in doing so they never can escape them, in doing so they'll just keep creating more.

My dad had an auctioneering side gig. My entire life he did free auctions for people needing to raise money to pay for medical expenses not covered by their insurance. Many were successes. But some where devastating no shows due to the person not being well known. It changed me.

The anti-system people won, the pro-system just couldn't be motivated to defend it.

High confidence low information people sharing "breaking news" are living in a state akin to someone who fails to grasp object permanence as they post misinformation, and then jump on the next bit of information contradicting the last, and not using that as a moment to reflect.

@Brittan06417432 @jewgazing That is not what I meant by my comment. I don't trust anything coming from anyone this early on. The drive for attention, confirmation bias, and being the first to post something makes people willing to share anything without knowing if it's true or not if it feels right.
