Writer of psychological dramas. I share novel tips, recommended reads, and commentary on the turbulent writer's journey. MA Creative Writing. Librarian. He/him.
Desire, logic, morality, genre, voice. These are the five narrative devices that I try to keep in mind at all times when writing a novel. If something goes wrong it's usually because I've neglected at least one of them. #noveltips
#querytip querying authors, in your bio if you don't have writing accolades, I still love knowing your day job and some tidbit about you. I read samples first and if I go back to your query, that's often missing (probably to keep things short). I mean, give me a sentence or two!
How lovely do these books look stacked up together? ๐๐๐
(We're running a little deal on them this week so now's the perfect time to get your hands on a treat for yourself, or a gift for the writer in your life. Links in our bio!)

ON WRITING: โThere have been plenty of self-destructive rebel-angels but writing is about getting your work done every day. If you want to write novels, they take a long time. The best environment, at least for me, is a very stable, structured kind of life.โโMichael Chabon #books
I would argue that editing is easier than writing. Or at least easier to get on with. I enjoy the 'chip away' aspect of editing, whereas writing can often feel like fumbling in the dark, trying to find the next climbing hold. Maybe just me? #WritingCommunity
Things writers should NORMALIZE in 2021:
-Writing a terrible first draft
-Dropping your WIP to write something else when it's not working
-Making a note of what you love to read and writing that
-Taking a break when you feel overwhelmed
-Prioritizing your mental health
-Sleeping
Dont beat yourself up if you have to make a big change in your novel. It's good. It means that you've recognised an area of improvement, which is half the battle. Every improvement makes you a better writer. It's part of the craft. #noveltips

"Make sure you aren't so dazzled by the climax and the conclusion of [your] plot that you abandon the conclusion of your character's long internal struggle." - Elizabeth Lyon #writingtips#writers
