@Al_Stoyanov Where is Kaldellis discussing this? I'm currently reading his Romanland, its quite revealing about the "Byzantine" identity and how they were calling themselves Romans, the land Romania and their disgust to anyone calling them Greeks
@Dfire8801@philosofveritas Are you kidding? Where in the study does it says its exclusively Illyrian? Trebeniste and Gorna Porta with all associated finds are completely culturally identical to the finds in Archontiko and Sindos. These type of finds and burial customs are absent from Illyria proper
@Maptysk Whoever those people were, they seemed to not dwell too longer in North Macedonia as their influence only appear in the end stages of the group and with a limited influence. They probably continued somewhere else.
@Maptysk Thanks for this. I need to get updated on the latest research, but the Brnjica expansion/influence seems over the top. The finds are few: 3 necropolises, out of which two have double ritual (cremation and inhumation). And in the IA cremation is fully abandoned.
@AspartameDagger Not surprised about Thracian origins of the names. Late IA/Archaic burial in Zdanec, Skopje, has Thracian elements, and many nearby settlements to the east have clear Thracian connections. There's even a new theory about Scupi that ties it to Thracian language root
@LjudevitKaj@Tzar_the_II Don't think Torlak is either Bulgarian, Serbian or Macedonian. Its too widespread and too all over the place to be either or. Deserves a serious linguistic analysis since its not standardized. Kinda similar to Shop dialect, though the later faded away
@Maptysk Generally, the entire region is very similar to the Korca basin. That extends beyond LBA and goes well into Iron Age. I personally discovered artifacts on Plaoshnik confirming this. Its probably linked to the "Dassaretia" region from the sources

I can send you a defended MA thesis specifically for mat-painted pottery in North Macedonia if you can DM me
@Th_Angelopoulos@romanhelmetguy Its marvelous seeing the total dismemberment of the below-average influencer (vast majority) larping whatever persona makes their relevancy obsolete. Marvel to behold. I bow before you sir. I admire your astute perseverance.
