Sport shouldn’t mean amnesia, and the Olympic movement should help stop wars, not play into the hands of aggressors. Unfortunately, the decision of the International Olympic Committee to disqualify Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych says otherwise. This is certainly not about the principles of Olympism, which are founded on fairness and the support of peace.

I thank our athlete for his clear stance. His helmet, bearing the portraits of fallen Ukrainian athletes, is about honour and remembrance. It is a reminder to the whole world of what Russian aggression is and the cost of fighting for independence. And in this, no rule has been broken.

It is Russia that constantly violates Olympic principles, using the period of the Olympic Games to wage war. In 2008, it was the war against Georgia; in 2014 – the occupation of Crimea; in 2022 – the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. And now, in 2026, despite repeated calls for a ceasefire during the Winter Olympics, Russia shows complete disregard, increasing missile and drone strikes on our energy infrastructure and our people.

660 Ukrainian athletes and coaches have been killed by Russia since the full-scale invasion began. Hundreds of our athletes will never again be able to take part in the Olympic Games or any other international competitions. And yet, 13 Russians are currently in Italy competing at the Olympics. They compete under “neutral” flags at the Games, while in real life publicly supporting Russian aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of our territories. And they are the ones who deserve disqualification.

We are proud of Vladyslav and of what he did. Having courage is worth more than any medal.

В цій квартирі на шостому поверсі згоріли батьки маленької Мілани. Дівчинці чотири роки і вона ще не знає, що тато з мамою загинули, розповідати про цей їй буде психолог. Вона врятувалася разом із старшим братом. Максиму вже 20 років, але і він не одразу зміг усвідомити, що маму та вітчима врятувати вже неможливо.

Вся родина спала вдома – 40-річна Світлана та її чоловік на мансардному поверсі. Старший син Світлани та спільна з чоловіком донька Мілана – внизу. О другій ночі у шестиповерхівку поцілив російський шахед. Це звичайний житловий комплекс в сел�� Білогородка, Бучанський район.

Одразу здійнялася пожежа, мешканці кинулися рятуватися з будинку. Максим встиг лише відкрити двері – його з сестрою на вулицю забрали сусіди.

Дівчинка була у шокову стані, на місце одразу приїхав батько її старшого брата, він супроводжував обох до лікарні. На щастя, фізично Мілана та Максим не постраждали і госпіталізація не знадобилася. Також гостра реакція на стрес в їхньої сусідки, 9-річної Софії.

Вигоріти повністю після влучання встигли дві квартири в цьому будинку. Але всі мешканці встигли врятуватися, за медичною допомогою ніхто не звертався.

Ми всю ніч працювали на місці влучання, знайшли уламки ворожого шахеда та вже розслідуємо цей воєнний злочин. Як і сотні інших. І кожна з таких справ – це зруйновані долі, осиротілі діти, знищені родини. Ми фіксуємо та ретельно зберігаємо все, кожен доказ – ��ля майбутніх трибуналів.

The parents of little Milana burned to death in this apartment on the sixth floor. The girl is four years old and does not yet know that her father and mother have died; a psychologist will tell her about it. She was rescued along with her older brother. Maxim is already 20 years old, but even he could not immediately comprehend that it was impossible to save his mother and stepfather.

The whole family was asleep at home — 40-year-old Svitlana and her husband were in the attic. Svitlana's older son and her and her husband's daughter Milana were downstairs. At two o'clock in the morning, a russian “Shahid” missile struck the six-story building. It is an ordinary residential complex in the village of Bilohorodka, Bucha district.

A fire broke out immediately, and the residents rushed to escape from the building. Maksym only had time to open the door – his neighbors took him and his sister out into the street.

The girl was in shock, and her older brother's father immediately arrived at the scene and accompanied both of them to the hospital. Fortunately, Milana and Maxim were not physically injured and did not need to be hospitalized. Their neighbor, 9-year-old Sofia, also had an acute stress reaction.

Two apartments in this building were completely burned out after being hit. But all the residents managed to escape, and no one sought medical attention.

We worked all night at the site of the strike, found fragments of the enemy's shahid, and are already investigating this war crime. Like hundreds of others. And each of these cases means ruined lives, orphaned children, and destroyed families. We record and carefully preserve everything, every piece of evidence, for future tribunals.
