Two years after a federal judge dismissed a conspiracy indictment alleging they disclosed private health information to help Russia, 2 MoCo doctors are suing the DOJ for $50M in damages.
At issue: The 2022 press release where prosecutors announced the indictment.
They allege the info in the press release (which now has a disclaimer) is inaccurate and the govt. violated the Privacy Act by keeping it online and apparently confirming it for a commercial background check database after dismissal.
The shipowners said their witnesses wonโt come to the US to testify for fear of prosecution and/or being held here, like several Dali crewmembers have since March 2024.

The trial over whether the Daliโs owner and manager can limit their liability in the Key Bridge collapse wonโt be delayed, US District Judge James K Bredar ruled today.
It will proceed to trial on June 1 despite a recent criminal indictment against one of the shipowners.
Diamond Transportation had just laid off more than 400 workers in MD and VA last November after WMATA reduced the firm's routes.

Maryland's WARN log shows they didn't give the state any prior notice, and the workers didn't know until the day of, per a new lawsuit.

KEY BRIDGE SETTLEMENT: Part of Maryland's $2.25 billion settlement with the Dali's owner/operator is a commitment by the state to pursue a claim against Hyundai, and to pay a chunk of any winnings back to the shipowners.
First $50 million to the state, after that it's 50/50.
