For nearly two weeks, the City of Oakland's tiny homes at 35th and Mandela Parkway have plunged into darkness due to fires at unsanctioned encampments near Wood St. known for drug activity and vehicle fires.

On January 19th, West Oakland activist Shan Hirsch urgently contacted me about Cheryl, a 62-year-old resident, and her companions seeking refuge on the cold streets. Disturbed by the plight of elders, we acted swiftly, securing a hotel for Cheryl and her group. Returning to the tiny home village, we conducted a walkthrough, engaging with remaining residents.

Why does this City-run site lack a generator during post-fire repairs? Why endure such conditions when Homeless Nonprofits receive substantial funds, with staff earning high salaries? It's an injustice that demands attention.

Despite @MayorShengThao awareness for days, urgent action is lacking, as she diverts attention to Washington DC. @carroll_fife is notably and alarmingly absent. This video aims to prompt their response.

The solution is simple, but the city and nonprofits don;t get paid if they solve the problem. It's time for change.
