Most people can’t handle nuance. They need their information nice and neat and categorical. Unfortunately we are complex beings operating in a broken world. The more you can deal with the nuance the easier it becomes to trust in a being higher and more powerful than yourself.
3. Meditation - Many people think of it as some new age phenomenon. It’s not. It means to think deeply or focus one's mind for a period of time in silence. When you meditate you’re allowing your brain to rest & heal. You’re helping create new neural pathways. As a Christian I meditate on Gods words in scripture that remind me I’m in good hands. Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. (Psalm 48:9)
“Into the silent land” by Martin Laid is a great book on this. Journey well
2. Medication - There are many thoughts about medication. I’m only offering a limited scope. Taking them doesn’t make you less holy, or less of a human. Some of us will take it like vitamins for life, some won’t. It may take time to find the right medication for you if you need it at all. The goal is not to be off meds. The goal is health. People don’t walk around wearing glasses & contacts thinking the goal is not to need them. The goal is to SEE!
3 ways to battle mental health disorders.
1. Mediation - I meet with a specialist. The brain is not a mystical entity. It’s an organ. Therapists, psychiatrists, & psychologists are people who specialize in brain activity. If you have a heart issue you’d meet with a cardiologist. So treat your brain the same. It can take time to find a good one. But like finding a good hair stylist…it’s worth the effort. Books can also help a ton. I love “hope and help for your nerves” by Dr. Claire weeks.
@candesscee What gets me is when men are shamelessly enjoying the view and liking/commenting the same kinds of sexy images that they wouldn’t want their significant other emulating….
