Given their own statement of Kratos is coming back in future installments as the protag it’s a simple case of this story has significance or they wouldn’t be telling it.

@AloofOb @SonySantaMonica I mean “God of War” is just kinda the brand/franchise. All the prior games were just called “God of War” because it followed Kratos, obviously Ragnarok was different but I digress.
This one being “GoW: Laufey” shows it’s expanding the universe and story but with a diff lead.
