Had layoffs at work today (analytics department at an insurance/workplace benefits company). I'm safe, but surprise to me, I'm on a new team working on stuff I've never touched before, which might make my pitch for promotion more difficult.

@razibkhan I wonder, longer term, if there may be a Congress/Representative dichotomy, where people will hate and distrust the broader institution but have a nice opinion about their component of it ("higher ed is bad, but my alma mater and the local flagship public are basically fine")
