(Part 3) We @DanDuranBugMan@Scottpegan@RobertASLaroche discovered a new species of beetle in the process, found only in the region surrounding Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the U.S! https://t.co/T25Bzbiqpw
(Part 2) What to do when different parts of the DNA give different answers as to how many species there are? In our recent study @DanDuranBugMan@Scottpegan@RobertASLaroche, we suggest prioritizing the information in certain types of DNA. https://t.co/T25Bzbiqpw
(Part 1) Scientists integrate different types of information to classify species, including the shapes of body parts and DNA. If some groups are distinct and on their own evolutionary trajectory, we may recognize them as separate species, especially if other information concurs..
Our recent description of a new tiger beetle (Eunota mecocheila Duran & Roman 2021) has been featured in the PLOS showcase (https://t.co/ZtMehXlMwr) and has a plain English description of the paper. Now it will be more accessible to non-specialists
We are thrilled to announce a new genus of tiger beetle, Jundlandia. These insects live in extreme desert environments which reminded us of the desolate Jundland Wastes from Star Wars. Maybe Luke Skywalker @MarkHamill has seen these in his travels!

I am so deeply saddened to share that on of my PhD advisors & long time friend E.O. Wilson passed away yesterday. He was truly an inspiration & had such a prolific and important scientific career. Thank you for being my advocate, hero, & friend. You will be deeply missed Ed.
For #FacultyFriday we are celebrating the research of Dr. Dan Duran and his discovery of a new species of tiger beetle newly named Eunota mecocheila from northern Mexico. Amazing!

What a great time of year for fungi! The recent rains have brought out a variety of beautiful mushroom species and my son and I saw these ones (and many more) on our walk in a local park yesterday.
@RobertASLaroche Congrats! And I have had some funny misspellings of my name as well. I once got a college recruitment letter addressed to "Don Duane". Needless to say, I didn't go there!
Our newest species description came out today in PLOS One. Eunota mecocheila is only known from a small area in northern Mexico.
