Yesterday, I went to Wainwright to show my support for the Canadian Armed Forces Community, First Responders and healthcare staff who stepped up to be there for our men and women in uniform.

On behalf of the people of Parkland, I extend my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives, those who are injured and their families. Our nation prays and mourns with you.

Spoke with Canadian Blood Services. I’m told there is no emergency blood drive currently in Wainwright but they are taking appointments starting Tuesday in Edmonton. Continuing to pray for Wainwright as the sun rises over the prairies this morning.

​This is an unimaginable tragedy. The loss hits both the Canadian Armed Forces and the community of Wainwright hard. It is a military town, they are tough, but their hearts are as big as the prairie sky.

​Wanting answers and speculating is human nature, but in a moment like this, take time to pause and honour those affected: the victims, their families, and those waiting in agonizing uncertainty. There will be time for questions. For now, remember there are people receiving the knock on the door or the phone call that is every family’s worst nightmare.

​Pray for those fighting for their lives. Pray for those in pain. Pray for those shattered by loss, and pray for those who are sitting, or rushing to sit, at a hospital bedside.
