I went around Sunshine North, Harvester on a scavenger hunt for used needles. This was 1 hour's work. Addiction & litter are a serious problem here & a lack of action by @BrimbankCouncil on installing sharps bins & outreach has hit hard. Grim, but my Oskar was in good spirits!

Just this week alone Maribyrnong Council workers as well as Mayor Semra & CEO were attacked at knifepoint. Community sentiment toward safety in the inner Western suburbs is bleak. Traders are worried about opening up & shoppers are avoiding the local areas.

I’ve been up & down Hampshire Rd, Sunshine today paying my respects to the local traders here, many of whom are Uncle Viet’s family & kin.

I saw @BenCarrollMP arrive along with Labor MPs, it’s my expectation that meaningful supports are offered. We need more than tissues now.

@keihotaru69 Unfortunately the issue isn’t that simple. Social & economic deprivation cause crime, then unmet safety needs & increasing crime lead to further depravity & the cycle goes on. We need Govt funding in Brimbank & Maribyrnong to break the cycle.

@Llib7 Yes, lack of housing, jobs, opportunities, appropriate third spaces means the social problems are not evenly spread through society. The struggle congregates in pockets & those areas are usually too deprived to support & deter at the same time.
