WILDFIRE RISK: Due to weather conditions, SC Governor Henry McMaster has instituted a statewide burning ban. Additionally, the Town of Mount Pleasant has increased its fire department staffing and has positioned its brush fire units strategically in Carolina Park and Dunes West.
Next year, Clyde and I are running the bridge! I’m pretty sure he promised me. Congratulations to the more than 27,000 runners in the Cooper River Bridge Run.
Election update:
Filing for State Senate District 20 closed today at noon. I am the only Democratic candidate, no Republican candidates filed and there is a 3rd party candidate.
This is welcome news for the campaign, and I am super grateful to all the folks who helped this campaign get off to such a strong start. Your support means the world to me. 🤗
But, I still have a race to win.
As always, I am working hard to meet voters and discuss Lowcountry issues. If you have a neighborhood or community group meeting coming up, let me know and I’ll be there if the schedules line up.
Today, we are one step closer to Building a Bridge to Better! 🌉
Thank you Downtown Charleston, West Ashley and James Island.
Native vegetation is always the right call. In this case it’ll also save millions of dollars Thank you Seaside Farms for showing us the way. #mtp#chsnews https://t.co/Ron5Xp4GwF
Proud to stand with #ccsd teachers to advocate for the raises proposed by Superintendent Anita Huggins.
Also devoted a portion of my time to talk about safety issues with the Lucy Beckham crosswalk on Whipple Road where a student was recently hit and injured by a car. #chsnews
#HAPPENINGNOW: Charleston educators and supporters are holding a press conference before tonight’s CCSD Board of Trustees meeting to push for livable wages for all educational staff in the district.

Georgetown's predicament regarding the future of its shrimp fleet presents quite a contrast with Mount Pleasant, which stepped up several years ago as a community to purchase dock space for our shrimping and crabbing fleet. #chsnews#scnews#mtp https://t.co/2a469gYBRX
What a glorious day celebrating MLK Day with my friends in the Charleston parade! I also got to fulfill a childhood fantasy of handing out candy to all of the kids assembled along the route. I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend. Sorry Cowboys fans.
@Rep_Pendarvis South Carolina: Rejecting money for poor people to have health insurance and food for their children. With the cost of everything rising, this affects so many people!
Mount Pleasant became the fifth municipality in SC to pass a local hate crimes law. It’s time for our State Senators to join the bi-partisan effort to pass a statewide hate crimes bill. #scnews#scpol#chsnews https://t.co/WQz06ph20k
Congratulations to my friend, @deon_tedder on being sworn in today as South Carolina’s youngest state senator. I had the great pleasure of helping with Deon’s campaign over the summer and witnessed firsthand his hard work, determination, compassion and sincerity.
A great retrospective of Mount Pleasant icon Ronnie Boals, the self-made, prolific restaurateur who shaped Shem Creek into what it is today. #chsnews#mtp#shemcreek https://t.co/zbcl7vlryn
Please stand with Mount Pleasant as we work to pass a local hate/intimidation ordinance to prevent hate groups from terrorizing our residents. https://t.co/GDH1fsTyDo
A lowly Councilman's thoughts on the hate/intimidation ordinance passed Mount Pleasant on Tuesday, making us the fourth town in South Carolina to do so. It is beyond time for the State of South Carolina to pass a hate crimes law. #chsnews#chs#mtp#scnews https://t.co/xAvAcxPGo8
I am proud to support my friend Ed Sutton for State Senate. He has done great things for our city and country. Check him out and pitch in to his campaign for Charleston’s new Senate seat.
