We favor this approach because it: - Avoids the UX + devX (broken atomic composability) and security pitfalls of inter-validator sharding by hiding the details of sharding from users, other validators, and full nodes - Turns sharding into a well-understood web2 engineering problem rather than a crypto research problem. This also brings off-the-shelf distributed stores, horizontal scaling w/ elasticity, and other powerful, existing tech into play.
