Extremely rough couple of days...but this book has been a lifesaver! Learned so much and finally feel that maybe I can actually do something! Pretty sure I have never put this much thought into any other book in my life, including while I was in grad school. 😉
Teachers are always meeting everyone else’s needs. But don’t forget to take your own emotional temperature. How are you doing...really? It’s okay to be honest. You’re not alone. We’re all just doing the best we can.
@SteeleThoughts@angiecthomas Follow up book...All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brandon Kiely (if you haven’t read it already). Both of these books are powerful and some of the best I have read. Highly recommended!
When teachers and administrators have fun at field day... it makes it more fun for the students. It reinforces the humanity of the educators and strengthens the personal bonds in the school.
Reality check today...my students notice EVERYTHING that I do and say. How do I know...first thing my student asked me this morning was “Mrs. Main, why are you wearing new shoes?” It’s was a friendly reminder that what I do and what I say, my students see it. #bethepositive
Love this! Reenergized why I became a teacher and how to build a positive relationship with my students. Thank you @samMMstecher and Mark Johnson. I needed this quote today, “And when you know, don’t ever stop knowing.” I know I’m meant to be a teacher #ted9190 https://t.co/8u3AMiAOn5
Lent my only copy of El Deafo by @CeceBellBooks to a 5th grader. She came up to me today and said she loved it and hopes it’s ok that she passed it on to her friends. My response...heck yes it’s ok!! #readingrocks#thisiswhyiteach
Our faculty is all about the kids... as it should be. But those teachers will also bend over backward for each other! I have such appreciation for the way our teachers support one another. When you have your colleague’s back... you make the school a better place to work.
I tell my students something like this all the time. I want them to understand the importance of learning. I don’t care if they go to college or get a job right out of high school. I always say, “Whatever you do...you will always have to learn. “ #ted9190 https://t.co/qFRUXw8O5s
@T_HEB Q9: Have then help with how it works, new programs, etc. Students nowadays know more about tech then some of the teachers. It gives them a sense of purpose. More importantly, it allows them to learn at a deeper level because it’s important to them. #edtechchat#ted9190
