Today, I was denied care from @MethodistHosp at my 3 week postpartum check up because I had my 3 week old with me. My baby who breastfeeds every 2-3 hours and doesn’t take a bottle. They suggested I leave her with childcare. I have a lot of issues with this:

@buelldawg @DebraFu98708879 @MethodistHosp Nor should they.. no newborn should be away from mom. Especially in a daycare facility 😳 I know we all have to do what we have to to survive though and since most women don’t get paid maternity leave, no judgement.

@LBSpiers13 @MethodistHosp They said it’s hospital policy that no one under 18 attends appointments.. I didn’t realize my newborn would be included in that.. sounds like they have policy in place to protect against this?

@cutchen_bailey @MdBreathe @MethodistHosp I��m more concerned that I won’t be getting birth control or make sure my body has healed correctly than anything at this point. But they should be concerned about mental health for all postpartum moms as a top priority!

@MethodistHosp My husband is back to work, we don’t have family in town, and I will not be putting my newborn in daycare. There is no reason to separate a mom and her newborn, even if she has help available. Will I be getting my money back for these follow ups that I had to pay for by 26 weeks?

@Dana_TFSJ @MethodistHosp I spoke with a manager and apparently they turn women away all the time when they show up with their babies. It’s “hospital policy”.

@MethodistHosp I learned after that many women who see Methodist providers have been turned away and as a result never received postpartum care. This is horrendous, we need care after birth and should be treated appropriately and not turned away because our newborn babies are with us.

3. I just birthed this baby and don’t want to leave her with anyone that long.
4. Who’s paying for this childcare for baby? Is it coming out of my non-paid maternity leave paycheck?
5. If this was a covid risk, wouldn’t my Dr. be willing to help if one of us WAS sick?

1. In a National formula shortage shouldn’t hospitals be encouraging as much on-the-breast time as possible?

2. Driving to the Dr. Office takes 30 minutes and they typically don’t see me for an hour. Should someone just hold my baby while she cries until I get home to feed her?
