As part of my working visits to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, I visited the Ministry of the Interior, where I was received by the Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, his Deputy, the Ministry’s management and staff, and the heads of agencies, including the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief Fire Officer, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, and other security service commanders.

The visit commenced with an inspection of a ceremonial guard composed entirely of women, who displayed remarkable discipline and professionalism.

I was briefed on the Ministry’s work and that of its eleven agencies in safeguarding public safety, strengthening border and migration management, promoting disaster preparedness, identity management, digital transformation, and institutional reforms, and in protecting Ghana’s national security.

The Ministry also highlighted a number of ongoing reforms, including the passage of the Community Service Act, proposed parole regulations currently before Parliament, intensified efforts to combat narcotics through enhanced prosecutorial powers, public education, and the seizure of assets linked to illicit drug trafficking. These interventions form part of Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the rule of law and enhance public safety.

I commended the Minister and the management of the Ministry for the dedication of officers across the various agencies. The Ministry carries one of Government’s most important responsibilities, as security remains essential to development and national progress.

While strong laws and institutions are vital, public education remains equally important. Sustainable security cannot be achieved through legislation alone; citizens must understand the purpose of our laws and willingly support their implementation. Equally important is strengthening the relationship between security personnel and the public by fostering trust and respect. I also underscored the importance of expertise in maintaining the equipment and technologies deployed across the security services.

I reaffirm Government’s commitment to supporting the Ministry in delivering on its mandate and encourage all officers and staff to remain focused on realizing the government’s vision to build a safer and more secure Ghana.
