We badly need a proper destructive DM, but Gravenberch was the better midfielder today. Szoboszlai needs to learn when to move the ball and control the tempo rather than constantly making needless runs, stretching himself out of position, and then running out of options. His energy is valuable, but the decision-making in possession has to improve.

The ROI is insane, but the £300m figure needs context. FSG didn’t buy a healthy £300m Liverpool in 2010 they bought a club drowning in debt and facing administration, with the deal also clearing the previous owners’ acquisition debt. The growth since then is still extraordinary, but it wasn’t simply £300m to £6bn.

@Enigma_LFox Yes, I agree. But you’ve actually highlighted the main issue there: Dom’s tendency to want to be the flair guy. He needs to learn to hold his position a little more and, with time, he’ll realise he doesn’t always need to be that player. We already have Wirtz for that.

Incredibly good, in my opinion. His work rate, willingness to track back, and ability to interchange positions really stood out. I have no doubt he’ll thrive under Iraola because he’s the kind of player who takes tactical instructions seriously and executes them well. If he continues to adapt to the system, I think he could be a really important player for us this season.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Van Dijk makes other centre-backs look better, and I think that partnership could really bring back his confidence. Having less responsibility will only elevate his dominant attributes, and he isn’t even expected to start every game, so it’s an even better environment for him to develop and regain his confidence.
