This afternoon, myself and other Hon colleagues putting on Kaunda suits in @Parliament_Ug were put to order by Hon @GilbertOlanya (MP, Kilak County) for allegedly being in breach of our @Parliament_Ug rules on dress code. Let me use the opportunity of this attempted charge to give my opinion on this issue of dress code. It's not an issue of fashion but rather its ideological and about our heritage.

Many still believe that formal and decent dressing for men is that of a western suit comprising: a tucked in shirt ,a coat and matching trouser with a neck tie. Some of us dont fancy this colonially imposed dress code.

Insisting on western styles of dressing to be the ones to define decency is not only an insult to our cultural rights but also to the greater African heritage. It is also an ideological issue. Nelson Mandela's philosophy on dressing/dress code wasn't just defined by another style of fashion but rather by His quest for freedom. His Shirt—commonly called the Madiba shirt; a loose-fitting, brightly colored, patterned silk or cotton shirt worn untucked and without a jacket and neck tie, broke the rigid colonial dress codes to symbolize accessibility, African identity, and post-apartheid freedom. To some of us, these characteristics of the Madiba shirt, speak so deeply to our ideological convictions.

I therefore, appeal to Hon Colleague Members of @Parliament_Ug and to all those that believe & emphasize formal dressing to mean a western suit with a tucked in shirt and neck tie as the only formal outfit of smart and decent dress code for men; to seriously rethink their positions. It becomes even worse, if we legislate in our rules of our procedure and impose this colonial dress-code as the Gold standard for Smart, decent & formal dressing.

I thank the Rt Hon Speaker @ObothOboth for having ruled in our favor this afternoon and protecting our rights.

I am looking forward to appearing next week to the @Parliament_Ug committee on rules to present my proposed amendments on this issue of dress code .

African wear must be well understood, well defined and be provided for in our rules of procedure.

⚠️ FAKE NEWS ALERT ⚠️: DISREGARD FAKE LIST ON RDCs RESHUFFLE.

My office has been drawn to a fake list currently in circulation on social media and WhatsApp groups alleging to be a "new list for the reshuffle of Resident District Commissioners RDCs and Deputies."

The public is hereby informed that the said list is FAKE and NOT from the Office of the President. Any genuine appointments or reshuffles of RDCs will be officially communicated by the Office of the President, through official channels.

I therefore urge the public, media houses, and all stakeholders to disregard the fake list and desist from sharing it.

Mr Aine Sodo Kaguta asks a very pertinent question: “my fellow Ugandans, why should being the President’s wife, brother, son, or relative disqualify a Ugandan from serving their own nation?”

I agree with Mr Aine Kaguta-who was 1 year old and thus a non-entity, when his more illustrious brothers Mr Museveni and Caleb Akandwanaho, picked up arms and went to the bush-that being @KagutaMuseveni’s relative should not prevent ANYONE from serving the country.

It is EVERY citizen’s right to serve their country or to contest for ANY office, even the highest in the land.

Being a son, daughter, niece etc of the President shouldn’t curtail their aspirations to replace him.

In the same breath, accountability should extend to them like it does to citizens outside the friends and family circle.

For instance, how does Ms Alice Kaboyo-a corruption convict, whose theft is still plastered on the @IGGUganda website- continue serving as a minister in government while Agnes Nandutu is languishing in Luzira?

They both admitted to the looting. One returned the full loot of iron sheets, the other only paid 20 million while continuing to own billions in assets.

The one who returned the full loot is at the beach in Luzira Women’s Prison, the one who paid back a pittance is throwing lavish weddings for her children, with the President as Chief Guest.

Mr Aine’s big brother the President once said convicted corrupt officials can’t be allowed to serve in his government. When confronted with this Kaboyo reminder, he started speaking Arabic.

That selective application of state mercy is a problem that Mr Sodo’s rather valid argument can’t overcome.

I have repeatedly read from different fora and, most recently, watched a clip from Hon. Ssemujju Nganda on how, sijui, Mzee Museveni appoints his family members such as the wife as Minister, Gen. Saleh to OWC, his son as CDF, Hon. Shartsi Kuteesa and Hon. Alice Kaboyo as Ministers etc., etc., to public offices and I have always wanted to say this.

HEAR ME OUT; why is it that nobody questioned when Mzee Amos Kaguta’s sons were in the bush fighting for this nation’s freedom? Nobody cared when Gen. Salim Saleh had bullets go through his body while liberating this country? Nobody questioned when Gen. Muhoozi served his nation in Garamba, Somalia +++.

My fellow Ugandans, why should being the President’s wife, brother, son, or relative disqualify a Ugandan from serving their own nation?

Isn’t that clear double standards? Should we say that their sacrifice was never a problem then but now that reward is involved offense takes precedence?

I must say this, President Museveni has a proven record of identifying, nurturing talent and bringing out the best in people. I’m curious if the eye that has spotted ability in countless Ugandans with no relation to him at all and elevated them to serve with him is the same eye that would go blind or biased the moment it looked at those close to it.

Anyway, enough of my rant.

Long live President Museveni!
