Interesting statement on the UNSG race by the Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of Panama to the UN (and member of the Security Council)

[Ricardo Moscoso @moscosorrm]

Disregarding geographical rotation for the SG selection process because of a “lack of candidates” or the perceived deadlock could be a negative precedent for the organization. This is an uncertain time in what seems like a fragmented world, in which the United Nations is trying to find its place after 81 years. The Security Council has a list of candidates, three of which have emerged as the most viable ones. Each of these candidates have the caliber and skill to run the organization. It would be unwise to overlook the long campaign they have endured and also, the scrutiny, when there is only 2 months left and no time to evaluate others as profoundly. I am confident that we will reach a solution.

Thank you @antslodkowski 🙏

I told @Reuters that while Grynspan had a bad day, she is still in the race because she still has the votes necessary to get the job but it could also be an opportunity for new candidates. The race has not been this competitive in 30 years.

@777luigixxx Agree

Weak day for Grynspan in the 5th UNSG straw poll, but she is still in the race. Will anyone join now?

@OsanyoOwino Thank you 🙏🙏

Mayor @ZohranKMamdani on cutting down wasteful budget spending:

There was waste. There's also this addiction to consulting. When we looked at the city budget, we realized we had to save money through efficiency. So we set up something called 'Chief Savings Officers' in every department. We saved $94M just by renegotiating contracts to a better rate. We saved $24M by letting go of unused office space. I believe that government has to be the most excellent, efficient version of itself to be worthy of people's trust.

Is it the beginning of the end of the SG race?

[Daniel Safran-Hon @DanielSafranHon]

@777luigixxx I appreciate your analysis and certainty!

Fourth UNSG straw poll: better for Grynspan, but is it good enough?

[Daniel Safran-Hon @DanielSafranHon]

Interesting. Greek partisan reporting about a potential new entrant to the SG race. No further confirmation of this information.

🇺🇳UN chief race: Costa Rica’s Rebeca Grynspan has widened her lead after the 4th Security Council straw poll, but has she cleared the biggest hurdle? What the latest vote tells us about the race to succeed António Guterres, with @M2Pham + @DanielSafranHon.
