August 22, 2000: An early version of the “Patrick Ewing to the Sonics” trade (being reported by some sources as completed) falls through after the Pistons back out of the deal.

In the proposed trade, Detroit would send Christian Laettner to the Lakers and receive David Wingate, Vernon Maxwell, Vladimir Stepania, Lazaro Burrell, Greg Foster, Tyronn Lue, John Celestand, two first-round draft picks and cash.

Vin Baker (not Luc Longley) would have gone to New York in this version of the trade, Chris Dudley to Los Angeles (instead of Phoenix), and Horace Grant & Greg Foster would have remained in Seattle.

Then 50 years later, you sit on the same front porch with your wife and realize you built a pretty beautiful life.
